The village of Dunsdale was created in 1872, by the Newcomen family wishing to open an ironstone mine; the original opening to the drift mine can still be seen today. Dunsdale consists of two rows of terraced houses, with access to allotments to the front. The village is surrounded by farmland with the nearest town being Guisborough. The village is sat next to the Wilton conservation area.
